REVIEW: Caird Journey Light Collar

Ben (our test Spaniel) needed a new collar and while we were at a dog show the Caird Journey Light Collar caught our eye so we decided to invest.

We were initially drawn to this collar as it has a much more premium look than most others we saw, coming in a pleasant red colour with a reflective strip running around it's entire length. The collar is also available in blue, purple, khaki, black, orange, camouflage and blue with an orange border. All except the camouflage and blue & orange feature the reflective strip.

The collar seems very well made with a sturdy aluminium ring to attach your lead to and a separate plastic ring to attach your dog's tag. It also has a nylon loop which can be used to attach a light for night-time walks. The fabric is supple and lined with neoprene which means it feels like it should be comfortable for Ben to wear.

The Journey Light Collar costs £18.97 from Caird and, in our opinion, is well worth this price as it really feels like this is a collar that will stand the test of time and give years of service, even for Ben who is very hard on his collars as he is in and out of hedges and muddy ditches constantly!

REVIEW: FreshWipes pet wipes

Muddy paws, dirty ears, grubby fur, and messy bums are all part of daily life as a pet owner so when we were sent a sample of animal cleaning wipes from FreshWipes we were interested to see how they performed.

These wipes are available in two sizes, the 18x20cm mini wipes and the larger 20x30cm extra thick wipes. They are made from biodegradable plant-based viscose fibres (meaning they are vegan friendly) and are completely safe to use on animals, even on sensitive areas such as eyes and ears.

We found the smaller wipes ideal for cleaning dog paws and for wiping away the gunk that our Springer Spaniel constantly accumulates around his eyes. The larger wipes worked well for more of a full body wash after particularly muddy walks. The wipes are quite moist which means they can be used for dried on muck although larger accumulations of dried on mud would probably be a challenge too far and they are much tougher than we anticipated which means you can give your animal a good rub down without them disintegrating. In fact, they are quite hard to tear even when we deliberately tried!

The wipes come in a resealable package which makes them convenient for keeping in the car or in a drawer at home and also prevents them from drying out once the packet has been opened. They have a pleasant minty smell and left our hands noticeably softer after using them.

Our verdict - a good option to have in the car or for a quick wipe down at home but a bath is still the best option for dirtier animals!
